K&S Wins Tax Appeal

K&S is pleased to announce that Member Mike Reynolds and Melissa Mattox, CPA, were recently successful in the appeal of a six figure tax penalty on behalf of a client with several central Kentucky locations. The client was assessed a penalty solely for a clerical error in failing to report W-2s to the Social Security Administration when the client was using a third party vendor for these reporting services. The client withheld and timely paid the appropriate taxes for all periods, but the IRS assessed a penalty of hundreds of dollars per employee anyway! When the initial request by K&S to vacate the penalty was denied, K&S diligently filed an appeal which resulted in the penalty being waived in its entirety. K&S has an embedded tax preparation group headed by Melissa Mattox, CPA, and the firm regularly handles tax preparation, tax work out issues and tax litigation.
